Holy Island - Eco-homes
North East building contractor and, S V Rutter Ltd, are proud to be the main contractor in the construction of four eco-friendly homes constructed on behalf of the Holy Island Development Trust. These new homes will be available to rent as affordable homes for members of the Holy Island working community.
Holy Isle, also known by its Celtic name as Lindisfarne, is located off the west coast of Scotland and has an ancient spiritual heritage stretching back to the 6th century. Holy Island was one of the principle centres of Christianity during the Dark Ages and was given to St Aidan in AD635 by the King of Northumbria. Now the Island offers exceptional bird watching and other wildlife and is very popular for activities such as walking.
Given S V Rutter Ltd's continual commitment to the environment, this was a project we were very keen to get involved in. With today's 'green issues' S V Rutter Ltd are building these homes to the highest standards available today in terms of eco-efficiency. The sustainable timber frame construction is very highly insulated using recycled warmcel insulation pumped into the walls and the ground floor. Coupled with additional insulative render boards this means the energy efficient homes will stay warmer for longer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
Hot water is provided with the assistance of solar panels for a pre heat solution which will decrease the running costs of any tenants, the first of whom we are anticipating being in occupation before Christmas.
The contract was negotiated with the Holy Island Development Trust after having worked closely with S V Rutter Ltd in the past. This is the second such scheme which North East building contractor and S V Rutter Ltd have been commissioned to build in conjunction with the Holy Island Development Trust. Funding for the eco friendly homes was generously provided by 3 Rivers Housing Association, the Tudor Trust and Triodos Bank.
